Neurology: Introduction to Neurosurgery

Course Overview

Learning outcomes:

The course participant is able to…

  • Identify the indications for hemi-/minihemilaminectomy +/- fenestration
    • Ventral slot
    • Dorsal laminectomy (LS)
    • CSF puncture
    • Muscle and nerve biopsies
  • List complications of the above mentioned procedures and recount how to avoid them
  • Describe the procedures for the above described surgical approaches
  • Operate the surgical approaches of the above mentioned surgical procedures
  • Critically reflect the best approach to the clinical condition of the patient – surgical vs. non-surgical and advise the best surgical procedure for the individual patient
  • Design a treatment plan for the individual patient beyond surgery
