Focus On – Soft Tissue Surgery

SUB & Ureteral Surgery MasterClass

Course Overview

This intensive three-day programme provides advanced, specialist-level training in the diagnosis and surgical management of ureteral disease in dogs and cats. Designed for surgeons, ECVS/ACVS residents, and experienced clinicians, the course combines high-level theory with extensive hands-on practical work using cadavers, surgical models, and ultrasound-guided techniques.
Participants will develop the clinical reasoning, imaging interpretation, and surgical skills required to treat ureteral obstructions, ruptures, strictures, ectopic ureters, and complex upper urinary tract cases—with a special focus on open ureteral surgery and SUB system placement in a non-fluoroscopic environment.

Key Learning Outcomes

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Diagnose ureteral pathology using ultrasound, CT and laboratory data.
  • Build evidence-based decision pathways for obstructive and traumatic ureteral disease.
  • Perform open ureterotomy and ureteroneocystostomy confidently.
  • Perform SUB (Subcutaneous Ureteral Bypass) placement using open and ultrasound-guided techniques.
  • Recognise, prevent, and manage complications, including device obstruction, leakage, infection and CKD progression.
  • Plan revisions and salvage procedures for complex or failed cases.
