Teaching Experience
Teaching mainly cardiology since 1991 at the veterinary program in Uppsala, which incudes both lectures and clinical work. Teaching at >100 continuing education courses since 1992 and ESAVS courses since 2009. Advisor to Phd students and residents (internal medicine and cardiology) since 1997.
Research
Research mainly covering diagnostics pathophysiology, genetics and treatment of myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) and dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs and feline cardiomyopathy. Lead investigator in 4 large multicenter international clinical drug trials, such as the SVEP, QUEST and EPIC trials, , all investigating the effect of different drugs in Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease in dogs.. Co-founder of the PawPeds screening program against feline cardiomyopathy.. Author and co-author of >230 original papers in internationally distributed peer-viewed Journals, >350 Congress abstracts and >20 Textbook chapters, including the MMVD chapter in the last five editions of Ettinger’s Textbook of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Panelist for the 2009 and 2019 ACVIM Consensus statements concerning Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease in dogs and for the 2020 ACVIM Consensus statement concerning Feline Cardiomyopathy.

1997 The Carolus Linneus Price by the Swedish Royal Science Society for outstanding achievement
1997 Hjalmar Håkansson award by the Swedish Veterinary Association for best veterinary academic thesis.
1998 Award from the Royal Academy of Agriculture and Forestry for outstanding scientificacheiveement delivered by the Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf at Stockholm City Hall.
2017 World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) International Award for outstanding Scientific Achievement. Delivered in Copenhagen, Denmark
2023 Life-time honorary member of the European Society of Veterinary Cardiology (ESVC)
