In 2003 and 2004, performed internships (half-year) in Diagnostic Cytology in the Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Porto, under the supervision of Dr. Paula Monteiro (MD) and at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, under the supervision of Prof. Rosa Rabanal (DVM).

Teaching Experience

Has more than 25 years of teaching experience in Medicine and Veterinary Medicine degrees. Currently, teaches Histology and Hematology. Participated in three exchange programs for teaching veterinary cytology in European and US faculties. Supervised internships in clinical pathology and final thesis of 16 Veterinary Medicine and 3 Master students. Currently, supervises 4 PhD students.
Gives lectures of veterinary cytology and hematology and is co-author of the first published book on veterinary cytology in Portuguese (Atlas de Citologia Veterinária, Edições Lidel).

Research

Research interests encompass the field of comparative cytology, quantitative morphology and pedagogy. Authored 81 peer-reviewed papers in those areas.
Currently, a member of Interdisciplinary Center of Marine and Environmental Research, University of Porto.

Other

Co-responsible for the diagnosis at the Hematology and Cytology Services, of the Laboratory of Histology and Embryology from ICBAS and member of the Pedagogical Council
