Feline Internal Medicine I

Course Overview

This course is designed for veterinarians with an interest in feline medicine. Participants can expect to increase their understanding of feline health and disease with an emphasis on a problem-solving and practical approach using real cases to illustrate key points.

Speakers for this week include Feline Medicine Specialists Dr Sarah Caney, Prof Danielle Gunn-Moore and Dr Samantha Taylor alongside Feline Behaviour Specialist Sarah Heath.

Preventative healthcare and senior cat medicine

  • Early disease diagnosis: what, why and how?
  • Osteoarthritis and chronic musculoskeletal pain diagnosis and management
  • Management/approach to unintended weight loss
  • Management of common comorbidities
  • Cognitive dysfunction syndrome recognition and management

Feline nephrology and lower urinary tract disease

  • Advances in diagnosis and management of common and complex conditions
  • Subclinical bacteriuria and other controversies

Feline Endocrinology

  • Advances in diagnosis and management of common and uncommon endocrinopathies
  • Systemic hypertension – diagnosis and management

Feline behaviour

  • Emotional motivational systems
  • Introducing the Heath model and how this helps us understand feline behaviour
  • Stress in cats: at the clinic and at home
  • Behavioural assessment and management of complex cases

Every day will include plenty of case studies to illustrate and expand on the points made in the lecture presentations
