SUMMARY:Emergency & Critical care\, Session 9
DESCRIPTION:Bleeding\nAcute bleeding disorders in small animals can arise from trauma\, hyperfibrinolysis\, or underlying coagulation abnormalities\, and they often present as life-threatening emergencies. The emergency clinician must be able to rapidly identify the underlying cause\, stabilize the patient\, and determine the most effective therapeutic strategy under time-critical conditions.\nIn this case-based webinar we will revisit the pathophysiology of bleeding disorders\, highlighting the differences between trauma-associated hemorrhage\, hyperfibrinolysis\, and primary or secondary coagulation abnormalities. We will discuss the diagnostic approach\, including point-of-care tests\, and how to prioritize stabilization measures such as fluid resuscitation\, transfusion strategies\, and antifibrinolytic therapy. Special attention will be given to recognizing when conventional therapy may be insufficient and when advanced interventions or surgical hemostasis are required. \nLearning outcome:\nAfter this webinar\, participants will be able to differentiate between the main causes of acute bleeding in dogs and cats\, apply a structured diagnostic and stabilization approach\, and implement targeted therapeutic strategies to control hemorrhage and improve patient outcome. \n

SUMMARY:Feline Medicine\, Session 6
DESCRIPTION:Feline endocrinology secrets unravelled – Part 2: D. mellitus\, acromegaly\, Cushing`s syndrome\nDiagnosing diabetes mellitus is not causing a problem in most cases. It usually gets difficult if the treatment response is not exactly what we would have wished it to be. We will look into monitoring of diabetic patients and possible reasons for insufficient treatment response. The focus will be on potentially underlying endocrinopathies such as acromegaly and Cushing`s syndrome. However\, new treatment options such as the SGLT-2 inhibitors will be discussed as well.\nPreparation material:\n• Short introduction on how to read glucose curves\n• Short introduction on SGLT-2 inhibitors\nLive workshop:\nSeveral short cases are presented in a quizze format asking you to provide answers using the knowledge you gained about glucose curves and SGLT-2 inhibitors. As soon as we have solved the most important issues around these two topics a case with acromegaly and another one with Cushing`s syndrome need to be worked up more extensively by you and you need to decide on how to treat them. \n
