SUMMARY:Cytology Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Cytology: The Questions Everyone Asks\nLecturer: Dr. Francesco Cian\nOverview:\nEvery clinician who performs cytology eventually finds themselves asking the same questions when approaching this discipline: Why my samples are often non diagnostic? Can I really diagnose a mast cell tumour with Diff-Quik – and can I grade it? Why are aspirates from lipomas so often acellular? Can cytology reliably predict malignancy? In this session\, we will tackle the most common doubts that arise when a needle meets a slide. \nFrom sampling techniques and smear quality to the diagnosis of lymphoma\, septic effusions\, and mesenchymal proliferations\, we will explore what cytology can reliably answer – and where its limitations lie. \nA session dedicated to the practical questions clinicians face every day when performing cytology.

SUMMARY:Cytology\, Session 4
DESCRIPTION:Inside the Marrow: Diagnostic Bone Marrow Cases in Clinical Practice\nBone marrow evaluation is a critical diagnostic step when peripheral blood findings fail to fully explain a patient’s clinical picture. Interpretation of bone marrow samples requires a structured approach and careful integration of cytologic findings with clinical information\, hematologic data\, and histologic evaluation of core biopsy specimens. In this webinar\, we will work through a series of clinical cases illustrating common diagnostic challenges encountered during bone marrow evaluation in dogs and cats. Particular emphasis will be placed on recognizing cytologic patterns of disease\, correlating cytologic findings with core biopsy histology\, and understanding how ancillary diagnostics such as PCR-based testing\, PARR\, flow cytometry\, and immunohistochemistry can refine the final diagnosis. \nLearning Outcomes:\nAfter the webinar\, participants will be able to: \n-Apply a structured approach to the interpretation of bone marrow cytology.\n-Recognize key cytologic patterns associated with important marrow disorders.\n-Understand the complementary roles of cytology\, core biopsy histology\, and ancillary diagnostics in bone marrow evaluation.\n-Integrate bone marrow findings with clinical and hematologic data to guide diagnostic decision-making \nSpeaker: Francisco Conrado DVM\, MSc\, DACVP (Clinical Pathology)\, Tufts University\, USA\n

SUMMARY:Dermatology\, Session 10
DESCRIPTION:Otitis externa and media in dogs and cats. – Dr. Manolis Saridomichelakis\nOtitis media is one of the perpetuating factors of otitis externa and is especially common in chronic and relapsing cases. Furthermore\, there are some less common cases of otitis media that may not be accompanied by otitis externa\, such as primary otitis media with effusion in dogs and middle ear polyps in cats. Neurological signs and extension of inflammation into the inner ear can occur. Management depends on the cause and differs from that of otitis externa without otitis media \nLearning outcomes:\nRational diagnosis and medical management of dogs and cats with otitis media. \n

SUMMARY:Feline Medicine\, Session 8
DESCRIPTION:Dyspnoea – a challenge that can be managed!\nThe dyspnoeic cat presents a real challenge in clinical practice — and things can easily go wrong. This session explores how blood tests and other diagnostic strategies can help avoid frustration and improve outcomes.\nLearning Objectives:\n– Understand how recognizing breathing patterns can help identify the type of disease\n– Learn an easy approach to interpreting radiographic lung patterns\n– Follow a structured diagnostic pathway for better clinical success\n– Discover how blood tests can narrow down differential diagnoses\nPreparation material:\n• Overview of breathing patterns and how they help localize the problem (including short videos with explanations)\n• Brief introduction to radiographic pulmonary pattern\nLive workshop:\nCase 1: Got the sniffles? The many faces of cat flu. Dyspnoea does not always indicate pulmonary disease — and cat flu is more than just conjunctivitis. Let’s review a case that make us think twice.\nCase 2: Dyspnoea – When furosemide fails. If there’s no response to furosemide\, increasing the dose won’t help. Let’s discuss effective alternatives.\n

SUMMARY:Behavioural Medicine\, Session 4
DESCRIPTION:Do Not Exclude Feline Patients from Follow-Up\nIntroduction: Feline patients are significantly under-represented in clinical follow-ups\, largely due to the stress of transportation and the clinical environment. This session focuses on optimizing the clinic-client-patient interface to ensure continuity of care. \nAims:\n• To provide practical strategies for low-stress feline handling and hospital environment modification.\n• To improve feline patient retention through enhanced caregiver education and welfare-focused protocols. \nLearning Outcomes:\nBy the end of this session\, participants will be able to:\n• Implement “Cat-Friendly” protocols in various clinical scenarios\, from emergency to routine check-ups.\n• Communicate effectively with owners to reduce pre-visit stress.
