Diplomate European College of Zoological Medicine (ECZM, Herpetological Medicine & Surgery)

Current Position

Head of clinic of the Division for Exotic Companion Animals and Wildlife of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Ghent University (Belgium)

Education and Experience

In 2006, he got his master degree as a veterinarian and in 2012 he finished his PhD in veterinary sciences with a focus on dermatological diseases in lizards. Tom became a diplomate of the European College of Zoological Medicine (Herpetology) in 2013.

Teaching Experience

Clinical teaching veterinary students: clinical courses in zoological medicine, visiting professor at Padova University, frequent speaker at conferences, conference workshops, seminars, continuing education (e.g. Academy of Veterinary Medicine Ghent University, Post-Graduation EUVG Post-Graduate Course in New Companion Animals & Course in Wildlife Conservation Medicine)

Research

He is an author and co-author of several scientific publications and book chapters.

Awards

He is a member of a number of organizations concerned with veterinary medicine and herpetological societies. In addition, he acts as an advisor to authorities with regard to reptile medicine and welfare.
